Are Christians boring???

A lot of people on the "outside" tend to have the idea that Christian people live bored lives and don't enjoy life. I admit, growing up in a Christian home I thought the same. I was tired of my parents dragging me to church all the time and all the "can't do's" they had. But when I became a devout Christian in my own time and with my own will, I realized this was not true. Some of us just don't know "how" to have fun and enjoy ourselves.

I do admit though that there are not a lot of Christian venues for us to enjoy without feeling like our fun is not wholesome. But at the same time, that doesn't mean walk through life with blinders and cotton balls in your ears. You have to be able to communicate and be easily entreated by everyone.

I became a devout Christian at a somewhat young age so sometimes I did feel like I was missing out on life. But as I got older and saw the condition some of my other peers had begun to be subjected to, I realized I wasn't missing out on much. There is nothing new under the sun. And when it's all said and done, I'd rather live on the safe side and be able to stand in the end than live on the edge and in the end fall off the cliff.

But the point I'm trying to make here is that life is what you make of it, no matter what your status is.

If you are living a god-fearing life that requires you to abstain from some things other people around you indulge in, don't live life feeling like you're getting the bitter end of the stick. You're blessed! But find a way to enjoy being who you are and the lifestyle you live. When people see you living your life in confidence, it will inspire some. Don't let others beat you at living life the way you are taught to live it! The one thing i admire about the Islamic faith is that they are not only willing to live for their faith, but also to die for it - and they don't give a flying flute what anyone else in the world has to say about it. The majority of them are true to their customs and practices and adhere to them in the public eye. Should we who uphold the faith of Christ live any less confident? Why are we so ashamed? (food for thought)

Your blog was very interesting and just what I needed, I have been working on
relationship with God and trying to pull myself away from things of worldly
nature. The area that I have the hardest time with is music, I love music, so if
there are some artist/songs that you can recommend please do.

Thanks for responding. It's great to hear that you are making these adjustments in your life. That is wonderful. Be encouraged. Some things take more time to get use to than others; it's a process, but just keep moving. As far as music is concerned, i hear that often from other people who are first starting to live saved. This is normal ;).

The problem with some gospel artists today is that they make their music sound just like the music in the world, which is not cool because it confuses people who are trying to stop listening to that kind of stuff. But here are some artists I recommend:

Virtue - (contemporary) They are an all-girl (sisters) group. ALL of their albums are the bomb so whichever you pick should be cool.
Marvin Winans - (contemporary) just released his first solo album last year; pretty good
BeBe & CeCe Winans - (contemporary) they're coming out with a new album in September, but their older stuff is cool too.
Donnie McClurkin - (traditional) his stuff is a lot more "churchy," but still good. (It's good to listen to the churchy stuff too)
J Moss - (contemporary) All his albums are really nice as well.
Karen Clark-Sheard - (contemporary) she's a GREAT singer & she's from Detroit. She sings churchy stuff and contemporary.
Dorinda Clark-Cole - (traditional) she's karen's sister and also a GREAT singer from Detroit. She is more churchy than her sister, but it's very nice to listen to.
Israel & New Breed - (contemporary christian) his music is very multi-culurally oriented, but everyone loves his material.
Marvin Sapp - you have to get a marvin sapp cd. He's a classic one.
CoKo - her debut gospel album is nice. I think you'll like that one a lot & you will be able to relate to this one. The cd is called grateful.

This should be enough to get you started. Just grab a few and work your way up. ;)
