But he stepped out

Lately, while I'm out jogging in morning, all my thoughts just seem to be clear and loud.  This morning, these thoughts just began to permeate my mind and I thought I'd share it with you all.  Some of you are at a place in your life where all you can see in front of you is one step – not ten, not five, or three – just that one next step? And you’re standing there thinking, contemplating, doubting, worrying, lagging in faith, and waisting time. All the time you spend there stagnated, the enemy is talking you out of your future and slowly dissolving your faith to move forward. The only thing you should be doing there, if anything, is praying. But eventually, you’re going to have to move, and take that step.

When Peter was challenged to step out on the water to meet Jesus, the fear of 'this step has the ability to take me under' confronted him, but he stepped out. It was a great opportunity for him on one hand.  On the other end of the spectrum, it had the power to take him under and wipe him out, but he stepped out. And like him, so many of us give more weight to the “other end of the spectrum” because we fear more than we have faith. We trust in our inabilities more than we trust in God’s ability to keep us from falling or being taken under. Peter stepped out. His faith and dependence became shaky when he took his focus off Jesus, but he stepped out. I would even go as far as to say it was probably a lot of curiosity that convinced him to step out of the boat in the first place. But Peter's curiosity gave us one of the most talked about miracles that happened in the bible – a man walking on water!
What will your curiosity do for you? Curiosity enables us to want to know more and do more, to try and to discover.  You don't always know, but you believe.  If you'll ever come into the place you've always dreamed, or start the business you've always wanted, you won't get there without faith and a little curiosity.  It's where new innovations are inspired from.  As we get older, I believe we lose our sense of curiosity and settle on the side of always being careful.  Faith in and of itself is dangerous.  Peter put his life in danger because of his curiosity.  One lesson we can all learn from Peter is that if we're going to be curious, back it up with faith. He stepped out there and didn't have enough faith to stay afloat.  Keep your eyes on Jesus!

If this is for you, I urge you to stop standing there in front of that step wavering in your mind. Pray until his love casts out all your fears to take your next step in your business, your finances, your education, your marriage, your ministry, or your career. Pray until you build up enough courage and curiosity to see what God has for you on the other side of your decision to move forward.  There are times when we wait on God to move, then there are times when He waits on us to step out in faith so He can back us up.  Don't be afraid to do great!
