One of the most anticipated events in metro Detroit has finally arrived today: the Woodward Dream Cruise. Last year was lovely. This year described in 3 words: “expectations exceeded!” (That’s only 2, but good enough). If you were there you can share in the joy and testament of this blog. If you weren’t, here’s what you missed. You missed the secret of the super hott oldskool Daytona Chargers in bright colors like orange metallic paints with super high spoilers. You missed the extra long white Caddy Deville with the white walls, matching white leather seats with not a crack or tear, and the sign on the back plate that said “I don’t bother nobody.” You missed the revved up engines, the burning rubber, and the pimped out car horns (lol). You missed the glorious GTO’s in red and black exterior paint. The red GTO hands down stole my eye. Did you miss the marvelous Mach 1’s in yellow, orange, and golds with the shark fin windows? Awwww, you sholl’ did! Lol And they were something to see. But here’s what you really missed. You missed the Blue oldskool Impala with white rally stripes, sittin’ real pretty with no care in the world. You missed its matching blue callibers, and white convertible top. If I could get a dollar from every drop of drool from people gawking over that car….LOLOL (“that’s nasty Faithe,” I know that’s what you’re thinking’).
You really did miss out on some nice sights. It was a nice atmosphere. Every where I heard a rumbling or racing engine (and there were many), my head was turning in that direction. I started cruising around 2:30pm beginning in Bloomfield. I cruised for about 3 ½ hours…loved every minute of it. All I needed was a full tank of gas and my shades and I was GOOD! This one dude in some really oldskool pick up truck shouted in my window, “Girl, you need to be ridin’ in here wit’ me!” I was crackin’ up.
People really love their cars. This is one of those events where people show how their blessings have accomplished them in the form of material wealth. I love the show of individuality and creativity versus the show of wealth. And it’s awesome to be around a flood of folks who appreciate your possessions; your individuality and creativity. It’s amazing how much a car can represent and express about a person, or even an entire state (MI) for that matter. These are the days when owning a Ford Mustang means more than just having a decent ride. It’s a culture I am proud to be a part of. The Dream Cruise is the only day/weekend in MI where we don’t mind being in traffic and being kind enough to let you over. It’s amazing to me!
This is funny though. I was driving, and I saw an old lady, at least 85 years old, next to me in some bid van cruisin’ down Woodward Ave. I thought the poor old lady was unaware of the event and got stuck in the traffic. Child please! She had her crew in the car with her video taping the other cars. That thing tickled the mess out of me.
By 6pm, I was disappointed because I hadn’t yet seen a Mustang that wowed my socks off…or any Shelby Mustangs for that matter. I knew if I saw a Shelby, it would do the job. But accidentally, because I and my friend made a wrong turn, I saw her…Eleanor…hidden underneath a tent at the Ford dealership lot in Royal Oak. I saw her and my face lit up like a 5,000 watt light bulb in pitch black. She was BEAUTIFUL…just like in the movie if not much better lookin’ in person…gray with the black stripes down the hood. I did get a pic with her. I didn’t want to leave. But it started to rain. I had to leave. But I’ll see Eleanor again in the future. One day Eleanor will be mine!!! :-)
I got some compliments on the car about how nicely painted it was with Candy Apple Red….that’s why I call her Candy, if you hadn’t put the two together by now. I got her a nice wax job before I took her out on the town. The one thing I like about my stang is that it stands out by itself, even around so many others. She’s my right hand man…especially on stressful days. I can rev that engine, pound on the gas and relieve myself…a very handy tool.
And so my day at the Dream Cruise ended at about 9:30pm. I missed another event to be at the Dream Cruise, and I shouldn't have done that, but this was an important leisure activity for me…something I don’t get to do so often anymore, so I didn’t want to miss it. I'd been waiting since last year for it to come around. It’s important to hold on to things that uphold your individuality....not to miss church though :( But I cruised alone and had such a good time. You don’t always need the company of other people to feel like your sport or hobby is important or fun. I’m realizing that more and more the older I get.

Hey Faithe this is Dustin. I agree and feel the same way. I really enjoyed myself at the cruise and I feel such a small event that revolves around a car brought so many people together in a very positive manner that helped everyone enjoy theirself and have a good time. Glad you enjoyed yourself and hopefully ill be seeing you there next year!
