Perhaps it's just me, but every now and again I find myself indulged in doing what everyone around me wants me to do and trying to be who everybody around me wants me to be. Some days I may do a really good job and some days I may totally suck. But in doing so I seem to lose identity; what Faithe wants, who Faithe is (whicn ultimately is what God wants and has for me). You know how some people are so quick to say "I don't care what people think about me, blah, blah, blah!" I'm not that kinda girl. I do care and sometimes to my own disadvantage. But I'm learning that even in caring what others think about you or want for and from you, you still have to know who you are and what you want for you. Don't neglect yourself for trying to meet everyone else's expectations. Have I even yet tried to meet my own? People's opinions are helpful, and their estimations CAN help determine your growth. But ultimately, ask yourself..."What works for me?" Even Jesus' ultimate purpose here on earth was misconstrued by people in his day. And at times you'll find that he even hid himself away in prayer and meditation to reaffirm who He was and what he was sent to do. Don't assume that just because people recognize your gift that they understand your purpose! Don't assume that because people recognize your purpose that they have the roadmap to get you there! Learn to appreciate the opinions and expectations of others, but never take your eyes off of what it is He has purposed you to do and the way He is taking you to get there. You have to recognize the difference. In the end, it is God's opinion of you that matters most.
Job 23:10, 14 "For he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold...For HE performeth the thing that is appointed for me..."
